Critical Factors in ICU Design

Critical Factors in ICU Design

This course will better inform the designer about Intensive Care Unit room design, critical factors involved in designing an ICU and the key equipment essential to design integration for functionality and space planning. This course also explains the key physical factors of the ICU and equipment that should be taken into consideration when designing a critical care environment.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the key physical factors of the ICU and equipment that should be taken into consideration when designing a critical care environment.
  2. Explain how new bed-side procedures create the need to reassess conventional ICU suite design.
  3. Describe the benefits of using power booms in place of traditional headwall systems and how this design can encourage family support.
  4. List the super-structures that support the equipment, as this is critical to the overall success of the room design.
